Meet the Vicar
Rev. David Holyroyd

Rev. David Holroyd has enjoyed 56 years of ordained ministry and brings a wealth of experience to St. Andrew’s-by-the-Sea. He received his B.A. at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and his M. Div. at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA.
Following graduation, he began his ordained ministry as Associate Rector of Christ Church in Gardiner, ME. He was then called as Rector of Saint George’s Episcopal Church in York, ME. During that time, he received his D. Min. from Andover Newton Theological School in Newton, MA. He retired from full-time ministry in 1999 after serving as Saint George’s Rector for 25 years.
Following retirement, David’s life has been filled with wonderful temporal positions in both the church and the secular world. Most notably he served as interim Priest in Portland, ME, Greenfield, MA, Lincoln, MA, and Dover, NH. From 2009 – 2023 he served as retired Associate Priest of Christ Church in Exeter, NH. He was appointed by the Bishop as our Vicar in August 2024.
While in Gardiner, ME, he met his spouse Snookie with whom he enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2023. They raised two daughters together, Shelley and Jenny-Jo. David has two grandchildren Tanner and Maia, and a son-in-law George. David is an avid sports fan and is totally devoted to the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He enjoys golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family.
